[Letter] Christmas 1941, 5 Clement Circle, Cambridge, Mass. [to] Catherine [W. Pierce] / Bliss Perry.

Perry writes his niece Catherine presenting her with a copy of what he has been told is a "a highly improper book--though I have never read it." The book had been given him by "Mrs. John Alexander ... the widow of the portrait painter and the mother of 'Francesca' who was so highly praised by Ruskin." In pencil note in Pierce's hand, she writes that it was Mrs. Frank Alexander (i.e., Francis Alexander), an American portrait painter. His wife was Lucia Grey Swett of Boston, Mass.Their daughter Francesca was also a painter.
